Under my skin

I got an email today from a former co-worker. He is now working for the American Embassy in Djibouti and his life is (now) very very different from mine. He included a 10 page newsletter about bringing his wife and their two kids to live in a strange and exotic place where marble floors are common, but clean water is a luxury. Marvelous, I just ate it up.

Now my wanderlust is all on fire.

For the next few months all I can do is read about places I'd like to go. But soon enough I will have an entirely new (albeit still very american) place to explore. I've decided having my wanderlust catch fire is good for quieting my fears and anxieties about this move. It helps me remember to be relieved and excited instead.

I WILL NOT BE WORKING THIS DESK JOB FOREVER.
IN FACT I ONLY HAVE APPROXIMATELY 33 WORK DAYS LEFT.
THAT'S APPROXIMATELY 2,640 MILES OF COMMUTING LEFT.
THEN LIFE WILL BE DIFFERENT.

See, I know it in my head, but it still isn't sinking into me. I feel like I'm just going to continue getting more pregnant forever and keep coming to work forever. That must be somebody's idea of fire and brimstone.

Hey Em, since there are apparently many things about your job you don't like and since you love to blog, maybe you could do yourself and your employeer a favor by pointing out "opportunities for business improvement" on a blog not unlike this famous blogger who just announced he was leaving Microsoft for greener pastures. The blogosphere is abuzz about his leaving Microsoft. Just make sure you know ahead of time how much dirty laundry your employeer is willing to have aired in public.
