Monday Makeover: realism

Having a baby changes your life (duh...) and changes it in such a way that time becomes a valuable resource. You cannot spend it as frivolously as you once could. It follows suite that areas of your life that you once struggled to find time for will be left in the dust.

That brings me to my hair.

As a little girl my mother always kept my hair ridiculously long(I mean that in the best sense). Everybody thought I was so precious. We would spend oodles of time putting it into curlers every night and then making it gorgeous in the morning.
Then I turned 13 and wanted to start doing my own hair. That desire only lasted about two months, but I had severed the cord and was left on my own with my hair... and found I had no desire to spend any time on it at all.

My hair takes a long time to dry, is full of stubborn cowlicks, and the minute it's long enough it lives in a ponytail, even on days I actually "do" it. - Not good.
So my makeover mission for the week, is wash and go hair. I (ta-da) am no longer stringy-hair lady. I think I may actually be able to complete my "getting ready" routine in the amount of time that my boss (Sir O) thinks is reasonable.
So even though I, of all people, know that long hair is pretty and feminine, I also know that when my hair is long it doesn't get done. Now, I need to practice going from shower to *done* in 90 seconds, and the new goal is to keep myself from looking like Harry Potter when I have a "bad" hair day. Suggestions?

Wowza. Emily, I think your h/c is soooo cute. I LOVE it! If I didn't have such dumbo ears I would do it. And if my Joshy didn't have an opinion.
Anyway, I used to have short hair when I was in High School and I lOVED it. Not quite as short as yours, but very pixie-like. My only suggestion on preventing a bad hair day is: do not wear a hat and then take it off and plan on it looking good! So, pretty much all you need to worry about is ENJOYING IT!!!
I luv it, luv it, luv it!!!

I love your cut. I've had super short hair for a long time due to the ponytail death that my hair experiences when it's long. My suggestion for no Harry Potter hair is some styling wax. Paul Mitchell or Bed Head. Both a little spendy, but they last forever. Pinch the ends with it, and it should be piecy and cute! Enjoy.

Squee! You did it! Love it, love it, LOVE IT! It's so cute, Em! I'm with GM, wax will help you not look Happy Potter-esque. Just cute and piece-y. So, so cute!

Wow! What a bold move!
I myself cut my hair recently, but I don't think I'd ever have the courage to go that short. It was a big step just to cut some short bangs. The rest of my hair has stayed untouched.
I'm starting to get the urge to chop it off though. My hair takes a little bit longer to dry every day and it's starting to get tedious.
Way to go!

I've learned long ago that whenever someone else says something about your hair...then you should totally ignore it. That only applies if you are female. If you are male, then you must listen to every word your wife says about your hair. And you must obey. And husbands have no say over the length of the wife's hair. Ever. End of story. Don't even think about it. Enough. Done.

Well Greg, I assume that is because part of the mantle of wife and motherhood is being the family stylist. I'm sure if you were willing to take over this responsibility for your entire family and proved you could do it WELL, then your input regarding your spouse's hair would increase exponentially in value.

But that's a lot of work, isn't it? That's why most men elect not to attempt being the family stylist... it's way too much work all for the control of your wife's hair-length, and besides... you know you love her more than you'll ever love her hair.

I rest my case.

Wow~ Cute!! I love it- and it's good on your face, too!

I third the "product" suggestion- something to keep it whispy and funky, and touseled is then a good thing and not a mess, like with long hair.

Coming out of lurking to say that I love your hair cut! I found your blog when I was pregnant and you'd just had your baby, and it gave me hope.... :)

Product is great for short hair. Sleeping on it wet is not. I also loved headbands; I could leave the back as crazy as it wanted, while the headband made it all look... deliberate. There are great headbands in stores right now, too.
