These are the ones I have. The point of the basket is to keep the food suspended above the water so that it is cooked by the steam, and not actually boiled in the water itself. If you have a small enough heat-proof colander (&/or a large enough pot to fit your colander inside) you could use that. Otherwise you can just boil your veggies, I just think that affects the taste and the vitamin/nutrient content a bit.
