So last fall, when we bought some basil with roots intact (to keep it fresh longer, methinks) at the grocery store, we couldn't resist planting it. And we made it a home on our bedroom windowsill. Lo and behold, look what has sprouted!
Yup, we've got tomatoes! How is that for a freebie with your purchase? (Showing up 6 months later!) I'm terribly excited, I haven't had a home-grown tomato in who knows how long.
Never mind that they are itty-bitty and there doesn't look to be a great bounty of them.
Oh, and I ought to share the cilantro plant Mr Renn got me for Valentine's day. Nothing says love like cilantro, I always say.
So my windowsill is defying February. I like it.

Oh, how I want an herb garden. It is on my to do list for the next month...or realistically, over the next few months! My time is just so limited...as I know you can relate! Once again you are my inspiration!
How cool! You're a gardener! Mmmm. Tomatoes and cilantro. Just a couple more items and you could make some yummy salsa.
i'm so confused...how does a basil plant grow tomatos?
But it's awesome....i'm a little jealous of the fresh tomatos...I love tomatos......

a tomato plant sprouted among the basil roots, it's just now mature enough to have it's first fruit.
gettig caught up on your blogging, man am I behind with my trip out of town and the chaos at work. How very cool about your little window garden.
What a fun surprise! And the greenery is enviable, especially this time of year. I think that is a great V-day gift. My flowers are already dying, but you will have cillantro for years to come, assuming the kids don't get to it.
Wow! What a fun surprise! Your little garden window is just lovely.
