Because of my finicky skin, I require a lot of coverage. I have these faint little freckles that will never see the light of day, because they are entirely overwhelmed by acne scarring. So I need some stalwart products to help me create an illusion of an even complexion.

1. My greatest secret weapon as a mother of not-always-great sleepers, a twice daily dose of eye drops to reduce the bloodshot-ness. It doesn't matter how great my makeup looks if my eyes are red.
2. One of the best things I have added to my routine is to create a more even base for my foundation. I've used a few different primers, but this one,Too Faced Primed and Poreless has been the best for not pilling and for even application. Just a tiny dollop of this stuff turns my face into a smooth surface for everything else to build on.
3. MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet +has been the best foundation for coverage with my mottled complexion. I apply it with a Sephora Platinum Air Brush, then blend it in with my fingers. Makes a world of difference. My color is #20, Ivory.
4. For active breakouts, prevalent scars, and undereye circles I also apply Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer with a Sephora Concealer Airbrush. I've tried using products specifically for undereye circles, but haven't liked anything as well as this.
5. Before applying a setting/matte powder (#7) I apply just a hint of blush. I haven't been very brave here and just used everyone's favorite Nars Orgasm Blush with a Sephora Blush Brush.
6. Also, as part of my foundation layers, I use a tiny bit of eyeshadow primer. I'm currently using up the sample of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion that came with an eyeshadow palette. I'm not devoted to their brand, but I do find that using a primer makes a big difference in keeping my eyeshadow in place until I'm ready to wash it off.
7. Then I even everything out with a matte powder and a kabuki brush. I'm currently trying to use up some powder that I bought at Costco years ago. It just keeps going and going. Someday I'd like to upgrade to Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder with a Fan Powder Brush.
After I've got a good and even foundation, I get to have some fun playing with color. That's up next.
