And now for something completely different...

If one must attend a cooking class when one is not inclined to enjoy food (especially smelly food) then what is the best thing that can happen?...

The chef/instructor will show up slightly inebriated and put on a fantastically entertaining show. I have no way of proving that this was the case (the inebriated part), but I have deep suspicions based on previous encounters with highly entertaining persons that I knew to be a bit tipsy...

She began the evening making a sauce and laudly touting the virtue of buying only the best ingredients, basically performing an infomercial for a particular brand of canned crushed tomatoes....
she then proceeded to use mostly western-family and store-brand ingredients (saying with a slur "I got it on sale at Dan's/Albertsons...), which led to much giggling by me as the gung-ho attenders in the front kept asking her to hold up the bottle or bag she was using so they could write down the brand/type/size/calorie content of each ingredient.

The fantastic show also included lectures on how to measure ingredients, followed by lots of mis-measuring and loud almost-under-breath mumbles that usually included "whatever..." As well as repeated demonstrations of the best way to dice onions and peel garlic. She seemed to forget how thoroughly she'd just demonstrated the same thing.... and I had a riot.

Interestingly enough, the food turned out great. I wasn't actually able to eat any of it, but Mr. Renn assures me that it was superb. I had a great time, I must say, and it was almost worth how achey and dizzy and blah I am today (we didn't get home and in bed until way way way past my bedtime.)

So, hoping this doesn't come across as anything but appreciative... here's to slightly tipsy cooking class instructors!
