company-ing

Mr Renn's brother flew in to see us last night.
Methinks we are cramming this "summer vacation" to the rafters. Fun but exhausting.

Here we are today doing center city.

At Independence Hall. I learn something new every time I take the tour. Today I learned that there were portraits painted of all but 1 of the signers of the Declaration, so when they paint pictures of the signing, there is always 1 guy with his back to you. (Wish I could remember his name though...)

Oliver and I waited outside while the men toured the US Mint, and then we headed to the Reading Terminal Market for lunch. I had a yummy crabcake lunch for $2.50. Such a fun place!

These are chocolate covered onions at a shop in the market. The tags say they are for people who are "sweet on the outside, but disgusting on the inside...." ETA: Renn informs me the correct verbage is "nasty on the inside..." sorry.

And the rest of the day I've been frantically trying to finish these pillowcases. Our ward (congregation) is doing a service project for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). I think it is such a great idea! We were supposed to find licensed character fabric, but I rebelled because I hate the stuff. Hospital pillows are so dreary! (And flimsy) The least we can do is cover them with something cheerful (and stuff 2 extra flimsy pillows inside to try to constitute a decent one...).

Chocolate covered onions.
I can't think of anything on this planet I would rather eat less.

So I wonder, does anyone buy those onions? ick. I am so glad that I'm not the only one that dislikes the licensed character stuff. I get so sick of Dora (and all of the others) shirts, shoes, and everything under the sun.

I think its funny that the things we dislike most are the things our kids will gravitate towards (like the character stuff). Oh the joys. I still don't know where you find the time to fit everything you do in.

I buy nothing with licensed characters. Hate it. The other thing is, it's always pricey, and the quality of the material sucks. Not a good combo in my opinion!

My kids will NEVER wear character clothes! I agree with glittersmama about Dora! She drives me nuts! I don't care if they wear the pajamas, but they will not wear character "outfits!" You get to see some neat places! I will go someday!:)

Wow Em, you really are cramming it all in! Even though the chocolate onions have sprinkles on them, they couldn't be less appealing to me. I love the pillow cases, definitely a good idea.

Having had both of my children spend time at CHOP. Thank you for the pillowcases. Those would have brightened their stays.
