Cookie Adventures

(ETA: photos )

Fun times with Jax & Lil
Well, fun for me anyway. Sir O found it a bit harrowing.
First, his mother is suddenly too busy to notice every little naughty thing he is doing, so he unplugs everything he can, and then heads into the kitchen cupboards.
I told him no at least a dozen times, but on the 32nd time, when I didn't say no fast enough because I was scooping sprinkles for Lily, he found the dishwasher soap capsule, tore it open with his teeth, and started puking all in about 1.3 seconds.
So between the frosting, the sprinkles, the dish soap powder, and the vomit, I had quite a mess to clean up.
Luckily le mama called apologizing that she was running late, so she never had to see her house in such a sad sad state.

But I did get it all cleaned up, and the cookies were looking awesome, with way too much frosting, and even more sprinkles.

And Sir O was so tired and cranky by the time we left that I don't think he'll ever let me pull such a stunt again. He fell asleep after 30 seconds in the car, and stayed asleep while I moved him from the carseat, up 3 flights to his bed.

I owe him one.

And I left my camera behind, so the pictures, they are coming in a slightly delayed fashion.

Now, the good stuff (although maybe I shouldn't mention vomit in the same post as a recipe, oh well)

Fabulous Secret Recipe Sugar Cookies

sift together:
3&3/4 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 ts salt

Beat together:
2 sticks butter (1 C)
1&1/2 C sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla

add dry ingredients to wet ones, careful not to overmix.
refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight..even better)
take out of fridge at least 10 min before rolling out.
Roll between 1/8" and 1/4" and cut out w/ cookie cutters
transfer to baking sheet (the special kind with the air layer works best)
bake at 400 degrees F for 4 minutes.

Yummalicious.

I have a good icing recipe too, although as a general rule I would rather buy frosting than make it. It's just so messy and requires so much powdered sugar!

2 egg whites, beaten until stiff,
add 3 &1/2 C (+/-) powdered sugar
add a bit of lemon water, 1/4 tsp at a time until desired consistency.

Or for chocolate icing, you can slowly melt a bag of chocolate chips with a TBSP of butter.

Pass the sprinkles!

Yum, my mouth is watering just thinking about those yummy cookies (minus poor O's sickiness) those sound like my kind of cookies...sprinkles!!! I have been craving sugar cookies, it's just such an ordeal to make them, but I have cute fall cookie cutters so I think I will be trying your recipe on Saturday!

I like the balance in this post...super good sugar cookies and self-cleaning vomit.

Oh, dear. Soap induced vomit. Peanut did that once when she found the laundry detergent. Ew!

That sugar cookie recipe looks so good. No wonder it's a secret. :)

My, oh my, that would be a bit too overwhelming for me. I would've thrown in the towel. Thanks for the recipe!
