I know I'm not the only person with a soft spot for wooden toys. Check out North Star Toys ...superfun for persons who share that idiosyncracy with me.
Oh Em!! Do you not know what I did before I became a mama??? I was the toy buyer for a natural toy store... I went to Germany to shop for wooden toys, and I know the folks at North Star (my kids have more than a few of their toys)...

So this year my family has decided not to give gifts for each other. We're getting together and guess what we're doing. Painting wooden toys!!! I am sooo excited. There is a toy company in Orem who makes wooden toys for orphanages and they need people to help paint them. I am totally excited about this. I am such a huge fan of wooden toys. LOVE THEM!!
I have a link, too, Em... not for specifically Wooden Toys, but I guess there are some wooden toys included in their selection. www.backtobasicstoys.com They have all the toys that we had growing up... and all the toys that our parents (and maybe grandparents) had too. It's soo much fun to look at what they have and reminisce.
Ali, not to be a party pooper, and Back to Basics has some really cool stuff, but most of their products are made in China. If you stick with the European or smaller cottage American makers, you can generally be immune to the problems with Chinese labor and lack of complience with lead, paint and other CPSU standards.
The EU standards are more rigorous than ours, by the way. Anything made in Germany (tons of stuff!) is absolutely safe- both for toxicity and labor.
