Our experiment with Sir O has been surprisingly successful so far. Luckily he has decided that the bed is cool and the crib is not. So when he tries sneaking out of bed, he gets tossed in the slammer (crib), locked (zipped) in the tent, and has to sleep there for the night. This appears to have provided adequate motivation to stay in bed (most of the time). And mostly he's been sleeping right through the night there, making for a smooth transition.
Well, we did have that one incident when he fell out of bed at 2am and busted up his face. (cameraphone pic I sent to Mr Renn the next morning assessing the damage). I know, ouch. We'd been debating whether to get a bed-rail to keep this from happening. I was all for it, Mr Renn said to wait and see if we really needed one. Massive bruise = we need one. So I thrifted one for $6, we scrubbed it with detergent in the bathtub (good as new), and now Sir O's face is safe from further injury.
Unfortunately this means all visitors are now demoted to the air mattress in the living room. Sorry folks.

I so glad it's working out. This is giving me hope for when I give it a go. I think having a little jail-bed sounds like a pretty good idea. Poor little O's face. He doesn't look too phased by it, though.
Locking him in the crib is such a good idea! I had a horrible experience with Caden when we moved him to a toddler bed. I think we are skipping that step with Kinley and just putting her right into a big girl bed. That bruise is so sad! I am glad you found a rail for a killer deal! They are so expensive!
Good job on getting him in his bed! Just in time for the baby to come. I know a few more months tell that happens, but your ready now, and it must feel so good. Sorry about his face. THat looks like it reall hurts. You always find the best deals. Hope life is good in the east!
Thats a good idea to do with Cole when I decide to try the bed thing. He still thinks that his crib tent is cool... Poor Olivers little face! I also love how Renn waits until absolutely necessary to buy things... like when Sir O ran outside at 10pm ha ha.
