28 up

I am normally a huge celebrator.  I love big parties, big surprises, and spending ridiculous amounts of time planning them.  Yet somehow, for this year, for right now and where my life is finding itself, a low-key birthday was precisely what I wanted, needed, and luckily got.

It entailed:

  • sleeping until 7:30 (which is good, lately)
  • rigmarole of getting myself and both boys dressed and groomed for the day
  • letting Sir O play too many computer games on pbs kids.
  • doing the laundry I procrastinated yesterday
  • Mr Renn coming home early from school, and taking me out to lunch (he even found a babysitter!)
  • Taking the boys to Mill Grove to enjoy being outside in the sun, even though it was muddy.  (And Sir O getting his backside covered in said mud).
  • mill grove
  • Having Sir O attempt to take our picture at Mill Grove.
  • portraits by Sir O IMG_6344
  • Mr Renn cleaning the kitchen to try to get rid of some of the reasons I can't handle being in the kitchen for more than 30 seconds.
  • Mr Renn teaching Sir O how to mop, vacuum, and peel cucumbers.
  • Mr Renn and Sir O going to the store to pick out a birthday cake for me.  (Or rather a tart; Sir O calls it a "fruit cake" and  requested the happy birthday sign for it - it was YUMMY)
  • Some singing, and only one candle. (The pregnant lungs were happy)
  • IMG_6368
  • Sir O opening my birthday presents for me.
  • Mr Renn putting the boys to bed while I answered a slew of happy birthday phone calls.
  • Watching disc 2 of Little Dorrit and eating pears with Martinellis.  I'm remembering why I don't love Dickens; the vast majority of his characters are completely 2 dimensional charicatures, but we're still hooked.  Too bad we can't afford to upgrade our netflix account, and have to wait a few days in between each disc.
  • Staying up way too late and being really very sick. This was inevitable.

Happy birthday! I couldn't agree more with a low key birthday, for myself. For others, going all out is fun!

Happy Birthday Em! It looks like you had a simply fabulous day (besides the getting sick part). Speaking of which, congratulations on #3! We are so excited for you! I know it will be hard with the move and all, but things will work out. They always do, right? I just really wish that Zofran worked for you!

You amaze me with your movie selections. How in the world do you know about these movies? I mean, I guess I realize you are a movie major person (not the best choice of words, sorry), but thanks for sharing on here what you read so I feel a little smarter for "hearing about that one movie."
Happy Birthday!!!!! The morning sounds like a classic mom birthday morning. Good job, Renn, for taking such nice care of Emily!
Oh, thanks for the idea to let my 3 year old take our picture. Oliver did a good job!!!!!
