It came down to 3 options - Sir O and the Captain in either a bunk bed, double bed, or trundle bed. Because my family has a legacy of broken bones and serious injuries associated with bunk beds, that was always my last choice. And nighttime bladder control has proved elusive for Sir O, so making someone share a bed with him seemed kind of mean. That left us with a trundle bed. (ignore the dirty floor. I could vacuum every single day, but I refuse to.)
We bought a standard twin bed frame off of the KSL classified ads and added furniture feet to give it enough height to fit a trundle underneath. Then Mr Renn built the trundle based on this pattern, and we painted and trimmed it all out to make it match. There's a slatted portion of the headboard that I'm hoping to upholster (sometime.... maybe). And we painted Sir O's old black crib to match and \moved it in on the other side of the room. So far everybody stays up a tad later, but otherwise it seems to be going over pretty well. I love my kids having a real "bed" and not just a mattress on rails. NOW I've got to get to work on a little girl nursery. My ideas are gathering here.

Love the bed, love the bedding, love your ideas on pintrest. It will be breathtaking. Nothing better than a real girly- girl nursery. When I had to dismantle Jenna's to make it into Alec's, I almost cried... even though I was excited to do a boy's room for a change. If you want any walls to be pink, I have the most gorgeous soft pink paint color to recommend- it's really gentle. Happy dreaming!!
