Okay, so I let Sir Oliver cry himself to sleep for an hour and 15 minutes tonight. Ick. So, um, now what do I do? What happens when he wakes up again in 2 hours? Why on earth can I find time to blog, but I cannot find time to read the books that have all the helpful suggestions about these things? Bad mom.

Brave Mama. I know, it's icky, and some mom's tell you not to do it- and some mom's swear by it.
When he wakes up, you have to gage for yourself how he is- did he eat well before he fell asleep? Should he be sated enough to last the night? If yes, then comfort him, lay him back down, and let him go back to sleep. He won't like it, but like Shoefairy said- they figure it out. And, doing this doesn't break your bond with your baby, I don't care what anyone says. My kids a flippin glued to my epithelials all day long, and I did it... And we all get good sleep now.
Then again, he may be so tuckered out, he might sleep a long time! Here's hoping!
How'd it go???
Like earlier, I completely agree with Tracy on this one. Make sure that Oliver is okay. (no feet stuck in the bars of the crib or in some kind of danger) If he's been fed, changed and is safe, then soothe him with pats on the back (try not to pick him up, though, or else you'll start all over again with the hour long crying) and then let him go back to sleep. Over time, it should just get easier.
I hope your night went well and here's hoping for a better one tonight!
I am a fan of The Baby Whisperer. She used the pick up/put down method. Pick them up and hold them until they are calm. Then, put them back down. You may have to do it many, many times but they will learn to fall asleep on their own after awhile. Good luck! (And I agree with Tracy - make sure all is well first...)
