outsideness

Nothing like real life to remind you how much grace under pressure you do not have.
After a winter full of being inside and more or less being swallowed up by routine, the sunshine and sweet air can be overwhelming.

Or maybe it's just how my day started.
Forgot to look at a clock this morning. I don't know if I can explain toddler mornings to anyone who doesn't know how they are. The primary presidency was supposed to meet at my house at 10 this morning, and apparently I hopped in the shower at 10:05, got all soaped up, and heard my doorbell ring. That's how my day started.

Then in mid-meeting I got a visit from my neighbor Ginnie inviting me to take a daytrip out to Fairmount Park. It's in my nature to pounce on a daytrip opportunity without thinking, and so I did. Then I wrapped up my meeting. Then I realized I had 20 minutes to dry my hair and get ready, feed Oliver a preliminary lunch, pack another lunch because he wasn't going to be hungry enough to eat enough to last until we got home, find the camera, clean up after a sticky breakfast, oh, and I'd meant to start some laundry that morning and hopefully Mr Renn wouldn't mind that the house was a wreck. In fact I realized I should have been embarrassed to let the rest of the primary presidency see my house, but I'd been too busy being embarrassed about being in the shower and answering the door in my bathrobe to think of that.

Once we found the horticulture center it was lovely. (Marin and I had a difficult time following the caravan) We were in time for the peak of cherry blossoms blossoming and the weather was lovely. The only drawback was that Sir O desperately wanted to climb into the reflection pond (or run into the road, he wasn't going to be picky). And he did not like the idea of being confined to his stroller while all the other kids were let loose. So, he kept me very busy. Then it was naptime, and there was no nap to be had (only some ornery, sleepy boys) Poor Sir O, I'm sorry for messing up your splendid routine. Please don't let it affect your affinity for naps. Love Mom.

(Sir O gr0ping said statue.... proud moment)

(The Japanese house and garden. Looked so cool I almost wished it had been open (not until May1)..... except it would have been one more body of water to keep Sir O out of)

(Sir O and a deceitfully placid expression)

(But mom, the water is so pretty...)

Oh, and the cherry blossoms.....

Holy Cow! I've been to Fairmount park, but I never saw any of that! There is nothing like Spring in PA.

I didn't know you are in the Primary Presidency! How fun!

What I wouldn't give for cherry blossoms like that. Gorgeous.
